Promotions at Meridian

Birmingham Post 23 May 2019

On the back of several years of strong growth and increasing demand for sophisticated private client legal and tax services, Meridian has promoted three of its senior solicitors to Partner with effect from 1 May. The new partners are Vicki Bennett, Peter Gate and Mark Terrar.

Vicki Bennett and Peter Gate have been with Meridian for almost five years and have seen the turnover of the practice more than double in that time. Vicki and Peter both specialise in complex trust and estate planning for high net worth individuals, often with cross border issues.

Mark Terrar specialises in advising on contentious private client matters, such as trust and estate disputes. This is a growing area of law, partly due to more complex family groupings becoming the norm but also the increase in dementia and related illnesses leading to a rise in testamentary capacity concerns and contested Wills.

Meridian provides a partner led service and the recent promotions brings the firm’s partner base to eight.

Alongside this, the firm is also pleased to announce the promotion to Associate of solicitors John Padget and Amy Griffiths, both of whom specialise in estate planning for high net worth individuals with business interests.

Jon Croxford, Partner, commented “It is fantastic to be able to promote from the pool of talent within the firm and is a testament to the strength of the team at Meridian. The firm is unusual in being able to bring together legal and tax specialists with such a breadth and depth of knowledge for the benefit of its clients.“

Meridian is one of the largest private client practices in the Midlands with almost thirty members of staff. The firm combines lawyers and tax specialists advising on private client issues on a range of non-contentious and contentious matters, often with an international element.

Meridian’s clients include business owners, landowners, high net worth individuals, highly paid executives, the beneficiaries and trustees of UK and overseas trusts, executors of estates and other professionals who require specialist advice.

Drummond Kerr, Partner, added “Such is the need for advice of this nature that Meridian has undergone significant growth in the last few years, taking on more office space at its premises near Birmingham International, and is well set for the future.”

If you would like to discuss any tax or legal issues, please speak to Jon Croxford or your normal contact at Meridian on 01675 442430.
